Arlington Spring Invitational 2009
On a beautiful March weekend with unseasonably warm weather, the Power Orange played in their first Arlington Invitational Tournament. Being first time participants, we were put in the U-11 Boys Classic division.
Time to Play!!!
Game 1 - Power Orange played PWSI Courage 97 Red. This game was a classic battle! PWSI came out strong and looked to dominate the early parts of the game and took the lead. Power came back from behind and took a 2-1 lead midway into the second half. PWSI then scored an equalizer in response. Power found the back of the net to score the final winning goal and to get the victory! PWSI battled hard throughout and even had a goal called back on an indirect free kick that was never touched before it went in the net. Power wins 3-2!
Game 2 - Power Orange faced local rivals Herndon Red Devils White. Power and the Red Devils had scrimmaged numerous times over the winter and were very familiar with each other. That was evident in the match as neither team was able to make much headway. After giving up a goal each, the match ended with an unsatisfying 1-1 draw.
Game 3 - Power Orange's final group match was against VSA Heat White. The Heat were a Division 1 team last season that finished in 9th place and will join Power in Division 2 this season. The match was a good battle that saw the Heat team outplay Power and finish with 2 goals. Power loses 0-2.
Final Rankings:
- VSA Heat White - Record 3-0
- Sterling Power Orange - Record 1-1-1
- PWSI Courage Red - Record 1-2
- Herndon Red Devils White - Record 0-2-1
VSA Heat went on to win the U-11 Boys Classic Division by knocking off Empire USA, who won the flight B.
